Health and Safety
The health and safety of our team is factored into all operations and plans. Therefore, our policy and obligation is to create a safe and healthful workplace conforming to local and federal law, including, but not limited to: Title 29 CFR (Labor), Title 40 CFR (Protection of the Environment); and Title 49 (Transportation). We undertake action to ensure a workplace free from recognized hazards that cause, or are likely to cause, serious physical harm to our employees. Employees receive health and safety training appropriate to their responsibilities and environment. We make copies of applicable OSHA standards and regulations available upon request.
The OSHA Poster
Our employees are protected by OSHA. This poster (PDF) highlights important worker rights we want them to know.
Worker Participation
Effective safety and health programs tap into workers’ experience, knowledge, and insight in order to find solutions to workplace safety and health challenges. In other words, workers often know the most about potential hazards associated with their job. We ask all employees to report any unsafe conditions so that immediate action can be undertaken to address the concern and restore a safe working environment. If you feel that corrective action is not being taken, then notify upper management in writing so that the matter can be resolved.
Drug-Free Workplace
Per US Code section 8102, Multiscale Systems, Inc. is a drug-free workplace. We are committed to maintaining a safe workplace and a drug- and alcohol-free environment. Because the influence of alcohol or any controlled dangerous substance is known to impair a worker’s ability to safely carry out the duties of their position, Multiscale Systems, Inc. strictly prohibits: being under the influence of or using, possessing, distributing, or selling alcohol, illicit or unprescribed controlled substances, or paraphernalia, or misusing legitimate drugs on property owned or operated by the company.
Americans with Disabilities Act
All current and prospective employees will be treated equally regardless of physical or mental condition, race or nationality, or religious affiliation. We will strive to comply with all applicable federal standards of the ADA and other fair labor standards and laws.
Anti-Harassment Policy
Our anti-harassment policy, consistent with our company ethics, expresses our commitment to maintain a workplace free of harassment, so our employees can feel safe and happy. We will not tolerate anyone intimidating, humiliating, bullying, victimizing, or sabotaging others in our workplace. We prohibit willful discrimination based on age, sexual orientation, ethnicity, race, religion, or disability. Punishment for harassment depends on the severity of the offence and may include counseling, reprimands, suspensions, or termination. Sexual harassment is illegal and we will seriously investigate relevant reports. This policy applies to all employees, contractors, public visitors, or anyone else whom employees come into contact with at work. If an employee is found guilty of sexual harassment, they will be terminated.
If you’re being harassed, whether by a colleague, customer, or vendor, you can choose to talk to any of these people:
- Offenders. If you suspect that an offender doesn’t realize they are guilty of harassment, you could talk to them directly in an effort to resolve the issue. This tactic is appropriate for cases of minor harassment (e.g., inappropriate jokes between colleagues).
- Your Manager. If customers, stakeholders, or team members are involved in your claim, you may reach out to your manager. Your manager will assess your situation and may contact HR if appropriate.
- HR. Feel free to reach out to HR in any case of harassment no matter how minor it may seem. For your safety, please contact HR as soon as possible in case of serious harassment (e.g., sexual advances) or if your manager is involved in your claim. Anything you disclose will remain confidential.
Health and Safety Record Keeping
Record keeping for safety training includes: date, subject matter, instructor, and attendance list. These records are available to employees upon request. Accidents and incident reporting protocols and procedures are provided during safety training and emergency contact information is posted.
